Semiotics:

The girl’s portrayal in the centre of the poster highlights a sense of power – physically and mentally – as her hand strongly hovers over the three boys at the front. Also her dominant facial expression represents anger and control whereas the other characters appear scared and fearful. This contrasts to the typical stereotype of a younger girl; due to normally being viewed as weak and vulnerable. The audience is left to question whether the girl is evil or protecting those around her. In addition, she is the biggest feature in the poster, which connotes her importance within the series but also accentuates that the storyline is built around her.

In this poster the women have not been sexualised -
excluding the stereotypical aspect of women being weak;
due to them working with the men and are shown holding weapons.

The background has a slight division between themes: the luminous starry night
on the right side indicates a sci-fi and horror genre (creating a sense of darkness and uncertainty) although the left side denotes a romantic genre (due to being filled with dreamy lights, coloured in pure pinks and reds, daring yellows and oranges.) As a result, the setting and mood is created, enlightening the viewer an insight of the series.
            ⇖
Despite there being a lot of darkness within this poster,
there is also a myriad of light. This juxtaposing aspect could
mean that when there is darkness – fear for example –
the characters put light on the subject – they try to prevent, help,
destroy or investigate the darkness. This connotes that
the characters are courageous, brave and intellectual.

A sheriff is placed within the group of characters; therefore despite the awareness of fear, there is a sense of security. This connotes that - possibly – murders, deaths, thefts, pain etc will be included within the series, creating a horrific appeal. However the advantage of a strong masculine character constructs a safe contrast. This is a typical representation of manhood within media in this period.

The three boys located in the centre of the poster, directly above the daring title, highlight their importance within the series. Additionally, the significance of the number three is referenced in many ways: it is a sacred number in many religions (e.g. the father, the son, the holy spirit), past present future, birth life death,
and beginning middle end. This possibly connotes their power when together. Also, the use of bikes could suggest that this series is adventurous and due to them being in the dark alone displays their courage and bravery.
                                                             ⇘

There is an ominous looking figure lurking in the background that seems to have come out of a restricted area wired and barbed fences. This causes a huge division between the other characters (who appear boldly in the centre) as the feature is positioned separately and has no identity.
Due to the suspicious suit, the genre changes to a type of sci-fi program as it connotes space,
or could be used for protection – a lab coat - which scientists use.
                    ⇙
The title has a very retro and unique vibe to it, highlighting a neon appeal,
which would be seen regularly in the 80’s. Furthermore, the specific
font is inspired from Stephan King horror films, which were also produced
in this time period. This could suggest when the series takes place.
Moreover, the denotation of the colour red connotes a type
of danger and fear but also signifies a sense of love and passion.
